Residential Eating Disorders Centre / BaiyangBaiyaang

EJE are proud of their role as Principal Design Consultant for the new Residential Eating Disorders Centre at Charlestown which is the first
of its kind in NSW.
In collaboration with residential architect Jodie Dixon, EJE has led a deeply considered design process shaping a facility that supports therapeutic recovery and emotional wellbeing for residents staying up to three months.
Nestled in natural vegetation, but with all the conveniences of Newcastle & the Hunter at its doorstep, this facility provides a vital recovery centre serving our local region, and the wider state.
The design has been carefully crafted to create a therapeutic user experience that influences recovery and improves the wellbeing of occupants who stay at the centre for up to 3 months duration.
The building form and arrangement is a thoughtful response to the client’s detailed emotional design brief and the site’s unique characteristics, optimising connections to the outdoors and landscape which play a crucial role in recovery.
Internally, each of the areas has been caringly designed to provide nurturing homelike spaces for residents to heal in a supported and comfortable environment.
The centre provides twelve resident rooms, a variety of lounge rooms and quiet nooks, as well as yoga & group therapy spaces, dining, kitchen, welcome room and administration & support service areas.
