Merchant

The Merchant is a visionary adaptive reuse project that reimagines a former Adina apartment hotel in Sydney’s Hosking Place as a vibrant, lifestyle-focused workplace for the post-pandemic world.
Located just steps from Martin Place, the building now houses 42 bespoke office suites designed for individuals, teams, and part-time city workers seeking a prestigious yet flexible CBD address.
Our goal was to create a space where work and life flow seamlessly—where comfort, functionality, and character coexist. From the co-working basement to private suites with balconies and ensuites, every detail supports diverse working styles, including regional professionals needing a part-time city base. The inclusion of a concierge, end-of-trip facilities, and a café/bar that shifts from keyboard to cocktail hour makes this building more than just a place to work—it’s a destination.
Drawing inspiration from John Hosking, Sydney’s first mayor, we crafted a brand narrative—Merchant—that’s expressed through original in-house artworks, street murals, and a bold palette inspired by colour psychology: calming blues and uplifting oranges. The façade makeover and custom signage amplify Merchant’s boutique-chic personality, evoking warmth, prestige, and a sense of belonging.
Designed for executives, creatives, barristers and startups alike, Merchant is where serious business meets stylish ease—New York loft energy meets Sydney convenience. It's not just an office. It's a work+life hub built around the idea of isolated togetherness.
