Jerry Helling

President & Creative Director, Bernhardt Design

Jerry Helling is the President and Creative Director of Bernhardt Design. During his tenure, he has repositioned the company from a domestic manufacturer of traditional wood furniture to an international design brand.  Widely known for supporting design education and mentoring young designers, his impact within the design community is extensive.

In addition to establishing and fostering an annual design studio at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Helling’s work includes creating ICFF Studio, which offers assistance to young designers in the process of launching their careers. He also initiated American Design Honors, an annual award presented in cooperation with Wanted Design, which tribute to the top young American designers of this generation.

A featured speaker on the topics of design and business, Helling addresses audiences for organizations worldwide. He has served as curator and juror for various exhibitions and competitions, and was elected as the first President of Be Original Americas, an industry initiative committed to preserving authenticity in design.

Helling and his wife Peggy reside in Hickory, North Carolina and New Orleans, Louisiana.
