Wolf Ranch River Camp

Wolf Ranch River Camp nurtures communal connections for the residents of the neighborhood.
Inspired by Texas State Parks, this project seamlessly integrates with its natural surroundings while offering a family-centric, multifaceted space that encourages residents and visitors to engage with the neighborhood and each other.
The grand wooden and stone structure is modest in material and rich in detail and serves as a launching point for exploration. The center is adjacent to the San Gabriel River and connected to a thread of trails that traverse the neighborhood. Each end uniquely nestles into the landscape to highlight the site's topography, views of the water and the preserved oaks.
The entry experience begins with a wide, raised boardwalk, flanked by heritage trees, and leads to a generous covered porch and a rain garden. The thoughtful layout provides clear sightlines and a linear progression of amenities. As one moves away from the structures, meandering paths bring visitors into the natural landscape. The event hall, affectionately named the "Treehouse," opens to the generous canopies.
Sustainable strategies were a primary consideration for the space, with glulam and heavy timber structures anchoring the design. Overhangs provide shelter and reduce energy consumption. The interior spaces are open with large windows, fostering a connection with the outdoors. Interwoven with materials including Corten steel, local limestone, and Douglas fir timber, Wolf Ranch River Camp resonates with the comfort and inspiration inherent with Hill Country living.
For the clients, a core focus was the variety of spaces for events that offer a hub for gatherings and outdoor performances. Amenities include a pool, a fitness center, indoor and outdoor kitchens and communal dining, an event hall, as well as a large playground and splashpad. The center’s design, ambitious siting and rolling topography, result in a one-of-a-kind amenity center. Wolf Ranch River Camp unites the community through thoughtful design, abundant natural experiences, and serving as a neighborhood hub.
