University of Arizona Paul and Alice Baker Center for Public Media

The Paul and Alice Baker Center for Public Media is a state-of-the-art facility that will strengthen Arizona Public Media’s ability to serve communities across Southern Arizona while creating a vibrant destination for learning, collaboration and public engagement.

Located at the University of Arizona Tech Park at The Bridges, the 61,500-square-foot building is designed to replace aging broadcast infrastructure and support the future of media production with advanced technology, modern acoustics and sustainable design features.

More than a broadcast center, the facility is intended to serve as a welcoming community hub. Its prominent location and transparent design reflect the values of public journalism, while a shaded public plaza provides space for events, outdoor productions and community gatherings. Inside, flexible meeting and conference spaces, production studios, and gathering areas will host public forums, presentations, screenings, performances, lectures, and other events that bring people together to exchange ideas and engage in meaningful conversations.

The center houses advanced radio, television, podcast, and digital media production spaces equipped with cutting-edge broadcasting technology. These resources will allow Arizona Public Media to create more local, original content while continuing to deliver trusted programming from organizations such as PBS, NPR and the BBC. The facility is also designed to support future media and broadcasting standards, ensuring it can adapt to evolving technologies and audience needs.

As part of the University of Arizona’s educational mission, the center provides hands-on learning opportunities for students, giving them access to professional-grade equipment and real-world media production experiences.
