To tarry means to linger or stay awhile. The Tarry House was designed for just that: to slow down, enjoy the surroundings and connect with the people around you.

Sited in the Texas Hill Country, the project was developed under the premise that its forms and detailing should reflect the inventiveness of ranchers. This straightforward way of building and living resulted in structures that show themselves unapologetically. The main architectural feature is a cross gable that provides high and airy interior spaces as well as light filtered porches. The cross gables have large expanses of glass with pivot doors and deep overhangs, that create a space that is both indoors and out.

A derelict barn at the location of the current structure was dismantled. The concrete cistern stands as a functional artifact from what previously stood and helps to organize the outdoor rooms. Reclaimed barnwood is used to clad the exterior of the home, showing the history of the site.
