State Bank of Texas

The new headquarters of State Bank of Texas presents the bank as a modern and progressive institution and a contemporary statement of its corporate culture and values.

The architects were tasked with finding ways to express the bank’s operations and management philosophy in a set of complex but easily navigable spaces. Transparency was a theme throughout the design process, as evidenced in the design and planning of all interior offices for leadership, management and staff. Efforts were made to make design choices that while set within a modern palette and design framework would also be classic. This interpretation led to a sense of the spaces reflecting the ideals of mid-century modernism with its emphasis on light colors, natural light and classis furniture designs. This expression of classic corporate modernism is knowingly paired with classic materials used in their natural state, devoid of ornament or decoration. Burlington, an English Lake Country stone and slate was selected for flooring throughout the project, in part because of the richness of its veining paired with its durability. Carrera marble, a material exploited by the Greeks and Romans for its simplicity and radiance is used for tabletops, desks and counters. All the finished wood, a significant aspect of the design, is maple with a clear finish. Leather dyed black is the only upholstery material. In sum these are all materials that will age well, develop a richer patina as they do so and require very little long-term maintenance.=
