Pecan Grove Residence

The Pecan Grove Residence aims to resolve a collection of conflicting desires–where the feeling of lightness confronts the requirements of structure; where an appeal for connection meets the demand for privacy; and where mystery contends with pragmatism.

Rendered in artisanal brick and natural stucco, the house lies in a liminal position between shaded front yards and an unexpectedly rich courtyard of extraordinary pecan trees.

The building fabric is calibrated to provide a sense of living open to the outdoors, while also presenting veils of visual protection. Inside, rooms open simultaneously to the surrounding foliage and to unexpected interior volumes. A sunken living room provides intimacy while also enmeshing its inhabitants into a planter of River Fern and Leopard Plant. Similarly, the geometry of the plan powerfully opens the house front to back, while the section presents the kitchen as a 20’-tall volume at the center of the house.
