ORIGAMI.house

ORIGAMI.house is a one-of-a-kind modern home nestled into a sloped, triangular lot just outside of Denver.
Inspired by the homeowner’s Japanese heritage, this thoughtfully designed retreat blends natural materials, clean lines, and a deep connection to the land.
From the outside, the home’s low profile and folded roofline echo the shape of the site, giving it a grounded, sculptural feel. Inside, spaces are arranged around a series of serene courtyards that bring nature right into the heart of the home. Vertical wood siding—used both inside and out—was chosen for its modern look and its nod to traditional Japanese craftsmanship. At the base, raw concrete walls mirror the rugged terrain beneath.
A 30,000-pound boulder anchors the design as both literal foundation and symbolic springpoint between house and landscape, marking the beginning of arrival. Visitors are guided toward the entry along a sloping steel trellis that casts shifting shadows over a sculpted garden of native plants and stone.
Designed for entertaining in every season, the kitchen features a social, two-sided island and opens up completely to an outdoor dining area and stunning pool. The living and dining spaces connect to a sun-drenched patio with a suspended daybed—perfect for soaking in mountain sunsets or watching summer storms roll by.
Built with Passive House principles, ORIGAMI.house is as energy-efficient as it is beautiful—using 60% less energy than a typical home while offering year-round comfort in a peaceful, modern setting.
