Nestled above Codornices Park in the Berkeley Hills, the Fold House is a ground-up new construction home designed by CB Architecture + Design and Timbre Architecture.

Named for its dynamic volumes that step down the hillside, each space is precisely oriented to capture panoramic San Francisco Bay views. Internally, the fold concept is expressed by two-story floating staircases that create vertical sculptures, while the unique creased roofline peels upward to capture light through a triangulated clerestory window, bathing the interiors with natural light.

The all-electric home was built for the realities of Northern California living without a single aesthetic concession. Floor-to-ceiling glazing, warm wood accents, standing seam metal cladding, and rooftop decks that frame the Bay at sunset sit alongside solar PV with battery backup, high-efficiency heat pumps, EV charging, seismic-resistant foundations, and a fire-hardened exterior with whole-home sprinkler system.

The layout includes an open plan kitchen, living and dining room, separate family room, two bedroom suites, two additional bedrooms, and a home office. A built-in indoor garden anchors the main living area. Every interior space connects to the Berkeley Hills landscape beyond through floor-to-ceiling glass.

Fold blends uncompromising design vision with forward-thinking sustainable architecture.
