Boqueria Restaurant, Boston

Boqueria Boston, nestled in the Seaport District, transforms a long, narrow heavy timber building into a dynamic and immersive dining experience.

The design employs a series of white oak, rounded-corner portals that visually expand the space, lowering the horizon and widening the perspective, while guiding guests through a carefully choreographed journey.

At the heart of the restaurant, a centrally positioned bar becomes the focal point, inviting patrons through the portals and showcasing a striking black metal framework accented with curated Spanish décor. The back bar features a thoughtful display of wine and backlit perforated metal liquor shelving, blending function with artistry.

Repurposing historic elements, the design transforms an abandoned brick shaft near the entrance into an intimate private booth for up to eight guests, complemented by a marble countertop for buffet or standing service. Custom steel windows maintain visual connectivity while defining this private enclave.

Throughout the space, white oak shelving with rounded metal frames punctuates the walls, casting light through perforated mesh and highlighting curated Spanish décor. Original timber columns with exposed metal bases anchor the restaurant, while custom light fixtures crafted from black pipe, brass, and fluted glass warm the dining experience and subtly modulate the 20-foot ceilings.

The open kitchen, framed by handcrafted chalkboard menus, celebrates the restaurant’s Spanish cuisine. Even transitional spaces receive thoughtful design, with terrazzo floors featuring blue and bronze speckles and dark blue fireclay tile-lined walls leading to the restrooms.

Boqueria Boston exemplifies a balance of historic preservation, material richness, and immersive design, creating an elevated yet approachable environment that encourages exploration, connection, and celebration of Spanish culinary culture.
