Albion Court

Tucked into a narrow infill site in San Francisco's Mission District, Albion Court brings three distinctive townhomes to what was once an overlooked side yard beside a historic Victorian union hall.
The result is a remarkable urban ensemble — old and new buildings sharing a landscaped entry court, creating an intimate community within one of the city's most storied neighborhoods.
The project's three residences each have a distinct character. The Street House anchors the front with tall volumes and planted terraces. The Garden House opens to a lush rear yard. And the Sky House — the standout of the three — rises to a grand top-floor living space with soaring wood ceilings, generous windows, and a broad rooftop deck with views across the San Francisco skyline.
The architecture is modern but considered, drawing subtle references from its Victorian surroundings through carved façade details, stacked bay forms, and layered garden terraces. A finely detailed entry gate and shared courtyard create a sense of arrival that sets the tone for what lies beyond.
Completed in 2015, Albion Court has since been recognized as a thoughtful model for sensitive infill development. Sustainable features — including a central courtyard for cross-ventilation, radiant hydronic heating, and a rooftop solar array — are woven seamlessly into the design.
Sustainable, sculptural, and deeply personal, Albion Court is a rare example of what's possible when bold design meets the constraints of one of America's most beautiful cities.
